IN FEBRUARY Clare Murray, 22, of Washington, told how she had suffered years of torment at the hands of her sadistic boyfriend.

Edward Snook, 38, of Birtley, Gateshead, received a two-year community domestic violence order for the abuse he inflicted on Claire which included beating her black and blue and holding her hostage in a car for hours.

POLICE are hunting a sneak-in burglar who struck the night of a major boxing match.

The thief was seen leaving a house in Percy Avenue, Cullercoats, between 3am and 6am on December 9 - the night of the Ricky Hatton fight.

The man is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, in his early 20s, with a slim, oval face and short, brown, spiky hair.

Anyone who saw him is asked to call police in North Shields on 08456 043 043 ext 63144.
